Portimão

Portimão is a port city in the Algarve region of southern Portugal. It is known for its old quarter, busy marina and proximity to many beaches. The Portimão Museum is housed in a restored 19th century cannery, with exhibitions on local history. The Gothic-style church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição. To the south is Praia da Rocha, flanked by ochre cliffs, and the medieval Fort of Santa Catarina de Ribamar.

In recent years, the mouth of the River Arade has been the scene of major events. It is also the site of the Portuguese race in the international Formula 1 motorboat championship. Portimão is now a leading municipality in the Algarve. As the anchor of the Western Algarve, it stands out for its tourist offer, its very own pulse and dynamism, and for the diversity of activities that make its day-to-day life intense and marked by a rhythm that continues throughout the year.
Portimão is currently the third port in Portugal (only behind Lisbon and Funchal) to receive the most passengers from cruise ships, thus reinforcing quality tourism in a municipality characterized by mass tourism.
Home to the Barlavento Algarve Hospital and the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, a city with industrial hubs with a capacity for development and services, the headquarters of the Algarve's regional sports board, and the largest multipurpose venue south of the Tagus, these are just a few examples of the importance that Portimão represents for the Algarve.
